On "The Grand Tour"
Before I blog any further, I must explain that our blog name, "The Grand Tour," is a reference to a fashionable 18th Century practice known as the Grand Tour. The Grand Tour was a trip of several months to years that wealthy European nobles made across Europe, mainly focusing on Italy. Having completed their university education in Classics, History, Latin, etc, they travelled to finish their education in art, antiquities, and culture.
Art, antiquities, culture. I drool at those words. My near lifelong dream of a Grand Tour will be interrupted by wind farms, boats, anything else that moves, substations, various construction projects, notable large holes with men and equipment inside them, and any other technological oddity dotting our grand landscape. Sigh. Alas, marriage is compromise. But, I cannot complain. Matt is a very generous, patient companion. When I am snuggled in my bag, in the tent, and it's cold outside, he'll always dash to the car for that little thing I could really pass the night without. What else can a gal ask for? Plus, he can plug away 7:30-4, M-F, so a girl can live her dreams.
